Bantay Belfry
June 08, 2013
Bantay Belfry sits on a hill in Bantay District of Vigan just along the national highway.
This towering structure was constructed in 1591-1592 and served as the belfry of St. Augustine church (situated just a few meters away) and the people's watchtower.
Visitors are allowed to have a tour inside and climb the flights of stairs leading to the topmost floor where 5 huge bells for different occasions are nestled. There's one bell each for christening, wedding, festival, funeral, and the biggest one is the warning bell for masses.
